Check out these beautiful stills from “Soft”, an LGBTQ2S+ coming-of-age drama from director Joseph Amenta (@josephtakesphotos), showing next week as part of the Vancouver International Film Festival (@viffest) 🎥 “Soft” follows Julien, Otis and Tony: three queer adolescents who plot to run amok in a gay club in the underbelly of Toronto, Ontario as part of their summer break plans. When some petty crime cements their plan a success, it inadvertently puts Julien’s guardian, Dawn, in danger. When the kids realize Dawn is missing, they form a search party that ultimately uncovers darker realities. Meet Joseph Amenta (@josephtakesphotos), the director of “Soft”, an LGBTQ2S+ coming-of-age drama showing next week as part of the Vancouver International Film Festival (@viffest) 🎥 Joseph Amenta is a genderqueer filmmaker based in Toronto who focuses on post-genre stories immersed in the underbelly and subcultures of the LGBTQ community. They have produced, written, and directed short films that have been screened at international festivals and broadcast across Canada, Europe, and Africa. Their short Haus (2018) was selected for the International Competition at the 2019 Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, and their next short Flood (2019) premiered at Toronto International Film Festival. They received the Toronto Screenwriting Conference Breakthrough Artist Award for their script for "Soft". “Soft” is playing in theatres as part of the festival on September 30th and October 2nd, and from October 3rd to 9th online through VIFF Connect. Check out the trailer for the upcoming LGBTQ2S+ film "Soft", showing next week at the Vancouver International Film Festival (@viffest) 🎥 The first feature length film from genderqueer filmmaker Joseph Amenta (@josephtakesphotos) follows three queer adolescent friends who become enraptured in the queer nightlife scene of Toronto, Ontario over their summer break. However, a missing persons case involving the guardian of the group's ring leader Julien quickly pulls them back into the reality they chose to leave behind.

Did you hear? Our NEW FILM in collaboration with the @thefranktheatre is OUT NOW! Titled “What if?”, it is a poignant short film that explores queer identity in relation to one’s mother tongue. What if there’s no word for queer in your mother tongue? What if you dream in Cantonese but struggle to speak it in your waking life? Featuring five queer immigrant community participants with Cantonese, Mandarin and Spanish as their native tongues, the film investigates the freedoms and limitations of existing between cultures. If “to know two languages is to possess a second soul,” (Charlemagne), how can our multi-lingual selves co-exist within Western assimilation and homonormativity?
